The Buzz September 2026
Keeping you informed with all the goings on at Wingrave JFC.
After a scorching summer (have you seen the park?!), we’re delighted to welcome all our Wasps back for another season of football, friendship and fun!
Before we get stuck into the new season, it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on what was a fantastic 2025/26 season for Wingrave Junior Football Club.
The 2026 Wasps Tournament
Our first ever two-day tournament was a huge success, raising an incredible £5,162.57 profit for the club! That is a fantastic achievement and is testament to the hard work of everyone who helped organise, run and support the weekend. Thank you!
The money raised will help us:
– Keep subscriptions at £150 per player
– Cover the cost of goal maintenance, which has been nearly £1,000 this summer, as well as new corner flags
– Help cover the shortfall from the FA pitch maintenance grant, which we no longer receive, allowing us to complete verti-draining throughout the season
It’s a great example of what we can achieve when the whole Wasps community pulls together.
Winter Training at Cottesloe
Winter training will once again move to Cottesloe School 3G on Thursday evenings from October. Having all the Wasps together on Thursday evenings last season really helped build a strong sense of community across the club, while giving the children access to a fantastic training environment.
We’re looking forward to doing it all again next year!
Thank You, Lee
As many of you will know, Lee Broomhead has stepped down as Co-Chair this season.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Lee for all his hard work and commitment to the club over the past few years. His contribution, particularly in developing and delivering the tournament, has been instrumental in creating an important new revenue stream for the club.
Thank you, Lee, for everything you have done for the Wasps.
A Wasps Team for Every Age!
For the first time in many years, the club now has every age group from Mini-Kickers (U6) right through to U16s.
That’s a fantastic position for the club to be in and shows the continued strength and growth of junior football in Wingrave, the surrounding villages and beyond.
The FA Future Fit Model
The FA’s new Future Fit model means some changes to the way our younger age groups play.
Our U7s will now play 3v3 football, so we wish Dave and Jamie all the very best as they take on this new challenge with the team!
There are also changes further up the age groups, with some teams continuing to play on smaller pitches and with smaller numbers for longer.
It’s an exciting time for youth football, and we’ll support our coaches and players as everyone gets used to the new formats.
The Pitches
The exceptionally dry summer has made maintaining the pitches particularly challenging.
Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to keep the new pitch drainage laterals topped up and seeded as we had hoped. As a result, we expect to continue with the pitch configuration we finished last season with until at least Christmas 2026.
This means some Saturday morning matches will continue to take place at Cottesloe 3G.
Hopefully, a bit more rain will help us get the work completed and the pitches back to where we want them!

Here’s to Another Great Season!
We’re incredibly excited about the season ahead and hope it will be another fantastic year of football, friendship and fun for all our Wasps.
Thank you once again to all our coaches, managers, volunteers, parents, players and supporters for everything you do to make Wingrave Junior Football Club such a special community.
We’ll see you down at the park – or at Cottesloe – for plenty more football!
